All Aboard The Burton Crazy Train

BURTON along with RED, Anon, Analog invited evo‘s Craig Towers,  Justin Courtney, and Jaymie Anselmo to take the Burton Crazy Train (aka Amtrak) from Seattle to Whitefish, Montana. The crew headed out into wild Montana for a couple days a shredding with the rest of the Burton family in celebration of a great year of snow in the NW! Here is a recap from Justin.

By: Justin Courtney

It all started Sunday.  We showed up at the Seattle station with our luggage in tow.   Waiting for us was the Burton crew, who not only had our travel arrangements all worked out, but also had gift riders packs for us. Once aboard the train we found our seats and opened our gifts.  Goggles, beanies, water bottle, shirts… you name it, these backpacks were packed full of treats.  The excitement and energy all around made it quite clear… we were in for one hell of a trip.  I’d like to tell you the 14 hour trip included some good rest, but that just wouldn’t be truthful.

Arriving in Whitefish, MT on Monday morning, we were super tired but excited none the less.  We made our way to the village and geared up for some Whitefish Mountain goodness.  Conditions were rough to begin the day, but as the temps warmed, the fun increased.  Some food and pool at the local watering hole rounded out the day as we prepared ourselves for day two of riding.

Tuesday morning brought two inches of new with bluebird skies overhead.  Burton always has their gear dialed and the product for 2013 is no exception.  We sampled some more gear and rode nearly all day long…our one stop?  Some much needed grub and a cold beverage at lunchtime.  The day rounded out with a little fancier dinner where the menu included both Steaks and Ribs.  Well played Burton, you clearly know how to wine and dine.

Wednesday was our final day in Whitefish.  We awoke to rain, and things looked rough.  Only about half the crew decided to ride that day and I feel sorry for those who didn’t.  Whitefish Mountain will surprise you, what looked like wet, rainy, nastiness from below was so much better once you reached the top and rode down the backside of the mountain.  I think only four of us rode til close, but it was seriously good up there.

The whole crew convened in town for a final meal before heading to train station. The food was excellent, drinks were tasty and somehow, even after days of riding and truncated sleep, the energy in the group was still high.  We boarded the train and some of us took our remaining energy to the lounge car.  It was there we encountered some warnings about the possibility of being kicked off the train, but I don’t think that guy was really serious.  In the end, we all made it back to Seattle and went our separate ways.  Snowboard trips are fun, Burton is rad, and Whitefish is awesome.  Big thanks to all those who helped make this trip happen.

We also have give a shout out to Foursquare, Forum, Special Blend, Friends, Gravis, Mizu, and Freewaters for helping out with everything!
